Featuring Kyle O’Quinn
Kyle O’Quinn is a MEAC legend. The Norfolk State University center earned back-to-back MEAC Defensive Player of the Year honors, averaging a double-double in each of his last two seasons as a Spartan. As a senior in 2012, O’Quinn was the first player in MEAC history to be named both the conference’s Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. He led the Spartans to their first-ever MEAC Tournament title that year, earning Outstanding Performer honors. But the best was yet to come. O’Quinn’s 26-point, 14-rebound performance helped the 15th-seeded Spartans upset No. 2 seed Missouri in the NCAA Tournament – one of the biggest upsets in NCAA Tournament history. O’Quinn won the Lou Henson Award, which goes to the nation’s top mid-major player – becoming the first player from an HBCU to win the award. After winning MVP honors at the 2012 PIT, O’Quinn was selected by the Orlando Magic in the 2012 NBA Draft, and he played 8 NBA seasons for the Orlando Magic, New York Knicks, Indiana Pacers and Philadelphia 76ers. He then played 4 additional seasons at the top levels of basketball in Europe and Asia.
