P.I.T. IS RELEVANT TO TODAY’S NBA
THE VENERABLE PIT IS RELEVANT TO TODAY’S NBA
A tournament as rich in history as the PIT loves to recall that Basketball Hall of Famers Rick Barry, Earl Monroe, Dave Cowens, John Stockton, Dennis Rodman, Scottie Pippen, Ben Wallace and Tim Hardaway all played in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament. But while most of today’s elite college basketball players never make it to senior year, that doesn’t mean the PIT’s impact on the NBA is only for the history books.
14 of the 64 players who played in the 2024 PIT have played under an NBA contract during the current NBA season. That means more than 1 in 5 of the players who played one year ago at the PIT have been in the NBA this season.
